UCL SSEES: Security Arrangements (H&S Doc-5)

ID cards

It is a UCL requirement that staff and students should carry ID cards and be ready to present them whenever they are asked to do so by a member of UCL Security Services or other authorised personnel.

Open access

The SSEES building is on open access during the following hours:

Term-time	Monday - Friday	08:30 - 21:00
	Saturday	10:00 - 17:00
Outside Term-time	Monday - Friday	08:30 - 19:00

During the open access hours, the Reception Desk is staffed by SSEES administration staff on Monday - Friday until 16:30, and by UCL Security Services staff at the other times.

Student access

Taught students

Students registered to attend Undergraduate and Masters Programmes are not permitted to be anywhere in the building outside of the SSEES Library after 19:00, unless they are attending a specific event managed by a member of UCL staff.

Research students:

Students registered for a SSEES MPhl/PhD degree are permitted to be in the SSEES building Monday - Friday until 21:00 and Saturday until 20:00 provided that the read and observe the SSEES arrangements for Lone Working (http://www.ssees.ucl.ac.uk/loneworking.htm).

Electronic card access

By use of their programmed UCL ID card, SSEES staff can enter the building during the following hours:

Academic staff

Monday - Friday	07:00 - 23:00
Saturday - Sunday	08:00 - 20:00

Administration staff

Monday - Friday

07:30 - 19:30

Staff who wish to work in the SSEES building outside of the main hours of business (i.e. when the building is not on open access) are required to read and observe the SSEES safety arrangements for Lone Working (http://www.ssees.ucl.ac.uk/loneworking.htm).

Intruders or potentially violent persons

All staff are instructed not to take any risks when dealing with intruders or potentially violent persons. Report any incident immediately to Security on 222 stating your name, location and circumstances. If the situation permits, notify the SSEES Reception desk (Ext 28700).

Front Gates

The building is secured at night by locking the front gates. The gates are unlocked at 07:00 Monday - Friday and 08:00 Saturday - Sunday and are locked at 23:00 Monday - Friday and 20:00 Saturday and Sunday. No-one is permitted to be in the building when the front gates are locked.
