UCL SSEES: Safety Induction Arrangements (H&S Doc-2)

Local Safety Induction

Upon arrival at SSEES, all new staff and students are made aware of the SSEES Statement of Safety Policy (http://www.ssees.ucl.ac.uk/SafetyPolicy.pdf) and Arrangements (http://www.ssees.ucl.ac.uk/safetyarrangements.htm). An induction session is arranged to take place as soon as possible to ensure that new arrivals are familiar with emergency procedures, location of fire exits and extinguishes, first aid arrangements, etc. The specific arrangement are as follows:

  • Staff inductions are carried out by the SSEES Assistant Director, or a delegated member of her team.
  • Research student inductions are carried out by the SSEES Head of Postgraduate Research.
  • Taught students (Undergraduate and Masters) are made aware of the information contained in the programme handbook they are given during Induction Week at the start of the academic session.

UCL Safety Training

Attendance of the UCL Safety Training course is mandatory for all staff and research students. For staff it is a requirement of the probationary conditions attached to their employment contract. For research students, their principal supervisor is responsible for ensuring that they receive appropriate safety information and training. Record of information provided and training

Upon completion of the induction session, each inductee is required to sign the following documents:

Copies of both of the signed documents must be sent to the SSEES Safety Officer in order to be held as part of the SSEES Safety Record as is mandated by UCL health and safety management strategy.
