UCL SSEES: Risk Assessment - Manual Handling (H&S Doc-16)

In deciding whether a formal assessment needs to be conducted and a record made by completing the Risk Assessment Form for Manual Handling (http://www.ssees.ucl.ac.uk/manualrisk.pdf ), the following factors need to be considered:

(a) the weight of the object(s)
(b) the capability of the person carrying the weight, and
(c) the distance the object is to be carried and difficulty of the pathway (e.g. stairs).

Very large, awkward and heavy office equipment must always be handled by trained Porters and this should be arrangement by contacting the SSEES Services and Supplies Officer.

The following SSEES staff have been trained on risk assessment of manual handling:

Sue Cole Services and Supplies Officer Ext 28800
s.cole@ssees.ucl.ac.uk
Louise Botley SSEES Safety Officer Ext. 28803
l.botley@ssees.ucl.ac.uk

NB A copy of the completed and signed Risk Assessment needs to be held in the Safety Records held by the SSEES Safety Officer together with details of actions taken.
