UCL SSEES Library
The Belarusan collection consists of about 1,000 volumes covering all subjects, but with the accent on language, literature, history and reference material. On the language there are grammars and monographs by philologists such as M. Bulakhau. M. Hurski and E. Karskii and by Westem specialists in Belarusan philology such as A. B. McMillin and P. J. Mayo. The Library has one of the early published dictionaries, Slovar´ Belorusskago narechiia, St Petersburg, 1870, by I. I. Nosovich. The literature section contains works by, among others, the prominent writers Zmitrok Biadulia, Vasil´ Bykau, Kuz´ma Chorny, Iakub Kolas and Ianka Kupala. Of the literary histories and critical works mention should be made of the standard work by A. B. McMillin, A history of Byelorussian literature, Giessen, 1977. The reference and bibliographical material includes: Belaruskaia savetskaia entsyklapededyia, 13 vols., Minsk, 1969-76; Belaruski peryodychny druk 1917-27, Minsk, 1929; Belaruskae movoznaustva: bibliiahrafichny ukazal´nik 1825-1965, Minsk, 1967. Books in this section have the classmark Bel.
The Belarusan collection is kept on the First Floor of the Library and in store.
