Conferences and Workshops

The School has a full programme of research seminars and conferences. Seminars, which are open to the public, are arranged by departments and centres and meet during term time in the early evening. Participants come from all parts of London and further afield. The seminars perform among other things the important role of providing a forum at which academics can debate issues with practitioners such as government officials, business people, representatives of the media and foreign embassies. Research conferences bring specialists together from all over the world for intense, concentrated study of a particular theme. The outcome of most conferences is a book and indeed many conferences are planned as book-writing exercises. Roundtables are arranged impromptu for important guests from the countries covered by the School who discuss off-the-record current policy matters with an invited audience of specialists. Among the roundtable speakers in recent years have been heads of state, government ministers and other political leaders.
