The Inspection of Portable Electrical Equipment (H&S Doc-19
To comply with the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 it is mandated by UCL Safety Policy and Arrangement that SSEES should actively manage the safety arrangements for portable electrical equipment used in its premises.
NB: SSEES staff must not bring into the building personally-owned portable electrical equipment without prior written authorisation from the SSEES Director.
SSEES Arrangements and Responsibilities:
| All Staff | Before using equipment for the first time, and at regular intervals thereafter, the user should visually check that the portable electrical equipment is in good condition (further guidance). If there is any question that the equipment could be faulty, the equipment must not be used and must be reported for testing/replacement by e-mailing the SSEES Services and Supplies Officer: s.cole@ssees.ucl.ac.uk

| Managers | Managers responsible for specific areas must ensure that an annual formal visual inspection of all electrical equipment is undertaken by their nominate H&S Safety representative as part of SSEES Good Housekeeping: Audits and Inspections |
| Safety Officer | Will annually review SSEES safety arrangements monitor compliance with safety management arrangements for portable electrical equipment, regularly review SSEES arrangements and ensure that appropriate records are kept of (e.g.) Inspections and testing. |
| SSEES Director | Responsible to the Provost and Council for ensuring that a safe system is in place for the management of portable electrical equipment within SSEES in accordance with the UCL Statement of Safety Policy and the Departmental Statement of Safety Policy. |
