Centre for European Politics, Security and Integration (CEPSI)

The Centre for European Politics, Security and Integration (CEPSI) at the UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies brings together academic staff, research fellows and research students in UCL and beyond with interests in the politics of contemporary Europe. Its goal is to be a catalyst for world class research and scholarship on the politics of contemporary Europe and to offer a space for the discussion of ongoing research and the development of new ideas anticipating contemporary policy debates.

Our broad areas of interest include democracy, sovereignty and security in Europe, European identities and their relationship with national and sub-national identity; as well as Europe's interaction with the United States, Russia, East Asia and the Islamic and Arab world. However, a focal point of our interests is the convergence of the processes of transition, integration and globalisation in the European context.

Researchers affiliated with CEPSI and guests of the Centre work in - and across - a wide range of disciplines and sub-fields including international relations, security studies, comparative politics, public policy and political sociology and discourse theory.

SSEES based academic staff affiliated with the Centre include Dr Felix Ciută, Dr Pete Duncan, Dr Eric Gordy, Dr Seán Hanley, Prof George Kolankiewicz, Prof Alena Ledeneva, Dr Richard Mole, Dr Allan Sikk and Dr Andrew Wilson as well more than a dozen research students working on politics-related PhDs under the supervision of centre members.

The academic co-ordinator of the Centre is Dr Seán Hanley.

The centre administrator is Natasha Clark.

Activities:

Activities supported by CEPSI include Research Seminars, Roundtables and Guest Lectures. We also sponsor and organise workshops, symposia and conferences in collaboration with other departments and research centres with similar interests.
