Baltic Tigers? Security Challenges, Contemporary Cultural Processes, New Directions



Andres Kasekamp On Friday 20th April, 2012, UCL SSEES hosted the sixth Baltic Symposium - "Baltic Tigers? Security Challenges, Contemporary Cultural Processes, New Directions", the most wide-ranging forum on the region since the inauguration of the series. Panels included papers on "Universities of Technology's Role in Creating an Innovation-Driven Economy"; "Energy Policy of the Baltics"; "The Eurovision Song Contest: Nation Branding and Nation Building in Estonia" and "Creating Healthcare Entrepreneurship Opportunities in the Baltic States".

Delegates had the opportunity to hear economic, political and culture experts as well as the upcoming generation of postgraduate students investigating new areas of research.

The keynote speech was delivered by Andres Kasekamp, Professor of Baltic Politics at the University of Tartu and Director of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute, Tallinn. Professor Kasekamp completed his PhD at SSEES in 1996.
